As a reward for helping the company battle through COVID-19, Ryder System,
one of South Florida oldest employers, is paying millions in holiday bonuses to
30,000 employees around the U.S.
Full-time workers will receive $1,000, while part-timers will get $500, the
company announced Thursday. The money will be paid on Dec. 14, just 11 days
before Christmas.
Founded 87 years ago as a small truck rental company, Miami-based Ryder
employs close to 40,000 people in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the United
Kingdom. Around 1,500 people work in South Florida at 29 locations,
including the company’s headquarters in western Miami-Dade County. During
the pandemic, large numbers have worked at home, a spokesman said.
While Ryder is still in the truck rental business, most of its growth has come
by helping other companies with the logistics of deliveries, storage, e-
commerce and transportation. Ryder manages more than 250,000
commercial vehicles and operates more than 300 warehouses.

Ryder, a public company whose stock is traded on the New York Stock
Exchange, joins a number of other large companies that have delivered
bonuses to employees during the pandemic.
