COMP NEWS – Chattanooga employees are being offered cash incentives of up to $5,000 if they pitch an idea that saves the city $500,000 or more.

Chattanooga employees could earn a bonus up to $5,000 if they come up with an idea that saves the city $500,000 or more.

 

It’s part of a new incentive program the City Council approved last week that offers rewards to city workers if they can present a proposal that has a documented annual cost savings.

 

The awards have seven levels and start at $100 for an idea that saves between $1,000 and $4,999. That increases to a max of $5,000 based on the amount of money the idea saves the city over a 12-month period.

 

Kevin Roig, Mayor Tim Kelly’s senior adviser for public affairs, said in an email the mayor is committed to “a process of continuous improvement toward providing efficient, effective and responsive local government that serves to improve the overall quality of life for our residents.”

Employees with multiple great ideas can earn up to $10,000 per year if their solutions save the city enough money.

Employees can earn at most $10,000 per year, with anything further requiring OK from the City Council. Elected officials and employees in appointed positions cannot participate.

 

A committee composed of the chief operating officer, the mayor’s chief of staff, the chief finance officer and the deputy chief human resources officer will judge suggestions. Those members are also ineligible for rewards.
